Seongsan Jin, Mayor of Seongnam, Urges Prompt Passage of Special Act for Green Planning Cities Seongnam City Hall

On the 1st, Seongnam Mayor Shinsangjin issued a statement urging the National Assembly to promptly pass the "Special Act on the Maintenance and Support of Aging Planned Cities," citing serious inconveniences faced by residents due to the aging of Bundang New Town, which was developed 30 years ago.

Mayor Shin welcomed the fact that the special bill passed the National Assembly's Transportation Committee's bill subcommittee on the 29th of last month and the full meeting of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee on the 30th, saying, "Please ensure that it passes immediately through the Legislation and Judiciary Committee and the plenary session so that the redevelopment of Bundang New Town, which local residents earnestly desire, can be carried out in a timely manner."

The bill applies to residential land over 1 million square meters that has been completed for more than 20 years. Originally, the reconstruction period was 30 years, but it has been shortened by 10 years.

This applies to 51 areas nationwide, including first-generation new towns in the metropolitan area such as Bundang, Ilsan, Pyeongchon, Sanbon, and Jungdong, as well as Seoul's Sanggye and Junggye, Incheon's Yeonsu, and Busan's Haeundae.

Mayor Shin also suggested that related ministries and lawmakers from both ruling and opposition parties cooperate to ease height restrictions in the Seongnam area, stating, "Bundang New Town faces height restrictions due to the flight safety zone caused by Seoul Airport located in Seongnam, so redevelopment has limitations with the special law alone."
