Last Year, Jaeun-myeon and Ha-ui-myeon Landfill and Incineration Facilities Awarded Grand Prize, Excellence Award, and Development Award Respectively
Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Park Woo-ryang) announced on the 30th that the landfill facilities in Aphae-eup and Sinui-myeon received the Excellence Award, and the landfill facility in Anjwa-myeon received the Progress Award in the "2023 Waste Treatment Facility Operation Status Evaluation" conducted by the Ministry of Environment.
This follows the 2022 evaluation where the landfill facility in Jaeun-myeon, the landfill facility in Ha-ui-myeon, and the incineration facility received the Grand Prize, Excellence Award, and Progress Award respectively, recognizing the high level of waste treatment facility operation management for two consecutive years.
The Ministry of Environment and the Korea Environment Corporation conduct annual evaluations of 649 waste treatment facilities nationwide to improve waste treatment efficiency and post-management.

The evaluation results are divided into grades from A to D, with grade A corresponding to the top 20%. Due to the island region characteristics, Shinan-gun operates 15 landfill facilities and 16 incineration facilities by eup and myeon, among which 10 facilities received grade A.
Shinan-gun is striving to enhance the operational efficiency of waste treatment facilities through training to strengthen the job competencies of operating personnel, facility improvements and expansions, and self-assessments of waste management.
However, due to limitations in the wage system, the number of sanitation workers has not been increased to an appropriate level, resulting in a heavy burden on sanitation workers who must handle everything from collection to treatment.
The county is strongly requesting the central government to improve the wage system to resolve this issue.
Governor Park Woo-ryang said, “The excellent results in the waste treatment facility operation status evaluation are a valuable outcome achieved through the active cooperation of residents and the dedication of the responsible public officials,” and added, “We will continue to create a clean and livable environment together with the residents.”
Meanwhile, the county is leading environmental protection and resource circulation by providing resident-friendly cleaning administrative services such as compensation for waste resources like used batteries and paper packs, free home collection of waste home appliances on connected islands, free disposal of waste pesticides, and resource circulation campaigns with residents.
