Korea Childcare Promotion Institute Promotes ESG Activities for Children with Disabilities in Remote and Rural Areas

ESG Activity Support Project for Children with Disabilities in Vulnerable Areas Takes Its First Step

Korea Childcare Promotion Institute Promotes ESG Activities for Children with Disabilities in Remote and Rural Areas

The Korea Childcare Promotion Institute (Director Na Seong-ung) has teamed up with Green Move Workshop to support ESG activities for children with disabilities in remote island and rural areas.

Prioritizing providing opportunities for children who face mobility challenges due to regional characteristics and disabilities to participate in ESG activities, both organizations agreed to directly visit childcare sites in remote island and rural areas to provide activity support.

The toy truck is coming! For the first project, the two organizations visited specialized daycare centers for children with disabilities in Gyeongsangbuk-do (Balgeun Daycare Center in Gyeongsan-si, Gyeongbuk, and Hannarae Daycare Center in Chilgok-gun, Gyeongbuk).

Under the slogan "Shared Values and Accompaniment," this project was held over two days from Tuesday, November 28 to Wednesday, November 29.

The Korea Childcare Promotion Institute and Green Move Workshop designed various programs to allow children to experience the plastic recycling process, including disassembling toys using equipment, exchanging unused toys for repaired ones, and making keyrings from waste plastic.

Additionally, during the program, employees from both organizations conveyed the purpose and content of the program to individual children and supporting teachers, conducting environmental education alongside the activities.

The response to the project was enthusiastic.

One teacher who participated in the activities said, "Children with disabilities often require individual support and are frequently seen as needing constant help from others, so it is truly encouraging that these children had the opportunity to directly experience and participate in ESG activities to realize values," adding, "It seems like it will be a truly memorable day for the children."

Furthermore, Jang Jae-kyung, director of Hannarae Daycare Center, which participated in the activities, stated, "Opportunities for participation are indeed limited for children with disabilities," and expressed hope that "opportunities like today will continue."

Na Seong-ung, director of the Korea Childcare Promotion Institute, said, "Society must continuously strive to enable children with disabilities to have experiences where they can directly contribute to society," and expressed determination, saying, "The Korea Childcare Promotion Institute will support these children to live in better environments as members of society and will also seek to create participation opportunities so they can become agents who accompany shared values."

Green Move Workshop, which participated in this project, promotes a plastic recycling resource business that supports the donation and repair process of broken or unused plastic toys to enable their reuse. Since 2020, Green Move Workshop has worked with the Korea Childcare Promotion Institute to raise awareness of the importance of resource circulation among young children, parents, and childcare sites.

The Korea Childcare Promotion Institute plans to expand support for ESG activities by visiting childcare sites through identifying vulnerable areas and targets in 2024, together with Green Move Workshop.
