As domestic companies shift their hiring trends toward experienced professionals through on-demand recruitment, opportunities for new employees to gain work experience are decreasing. In this context, the Seoul Chamber of Commerce and Industry is successfully running a youth internship program that provides on-the-job training (OJT) experience at workplaces.

With ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management becoming a necessity rather than an option for global and domestic companies, this project was initiated to simultaneously provide youth with work experience opportunities and cultivate and disseminate ESG specialists to strengthen companies' ESG capabilities.

A representative from the Seoul Chamber stated, "From September this year to February next year, about 100 people will be deployed on-site. Not only large corporations such as SK Hynix, POSCO, and Doosan but also many promising small and medium-sized enterprises have confirmed their participation. We have already received numerous inquiries from companies interested in participating next year," conveying the enthusiasm in the field.

The program designed a basic job training curriculum focused on competencies commonly required by corporate ESG teams, resulting in high interest and satisfaction among participating youth. Companies that received interns who completed the training also reported very high satisfaction.

In particular, the instructors were composed of practitioners at the forefront of corporate ESG management and ESG diagnostic coaching consultants, focusing on delivering vivid voices from the field. Considering that the trainees are young people, the content was structured and operated to be easy but essential, focusing mainly on concepts.

Moreover, by selecting subcontractors to handle ▲demand discovery ▲education operation ▲administrative processing ▲customer service, the project was systematically managed through role division in each area. Regular monitoring was also conducted for the dispatched youth and company representatives to ensure thorough follow-up management.

The Seoul Chamber applied for the 'Future Tomorrow Work Experience Project' excellence program contest, and after document and presentation evaluations, received the 'Excellence Award.' The Ministry of Employment also recognized their contribution to creating quality work experience, and the internship activities were vividly featured on the Chamber’s ESG portal 'Eusseuk.'

Woo Tae-hee, Executive Vice Chairman, said, "Since last year, the Seoul Chamber has been conducting ESG education and consulting through the Supply Chain ESG Support Center, and started the ESG internship to assist companies preparing for ESG. We will continue to support future generations so that their corporate field experience can lead to employment."
