Jungnang-gu Wins Seoul City 'Grand Prize' in 2023 Comprehensive Food Hygiene Evaluation

Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) won the "Grand Prize" in the "2023 Comprehensive Evaluation of Food Hygiene in Autonomous Districts" hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Following three consecutive years of receiving the "Excellence Award" since 2020, the district achieved the top rank among Seoul's autonomous districts this year with outstanding results.

The evaluation comprehensively assessed the efforts in food hygiene management and food policy implementation across 25 autonomous districts in Seoul, divided into 7 categories and 23 indicators.

Specifically, the district received high scores across indicators such as ▲food safety management infrastructure ▲inspection and violation rates of food-related businesses ▲food safety inspections and complaint handling ▲response to food poisoning and management of food service establishments ▲dietary improvement ▲integrity and courteous administrative services ▲food accident crisis response simulation training evaluation ▲performance of loans from the Food Promotion Fund.

In particular, through active joint public-private crackdowns with consumer food hygiene monitors, the district conducted hygiene inspections on 6,967 food-related establishments within its jurisdiction, earning perfect scores in the "inspection of food-related businesses" and "participation in joint inspections" indicators, receiving favorable evaluations for contributing to the creation of a safe food hygiene environment.

Additionally, the district received perfect scores and high praise for the "Restaurant Hygiene Grade Designation" project, which evaluates the hygiene status of restaurants and designates and publicly discloses grades for excellent establishments.

Moreover, the district achieved perfect scores in indicators such as ▲complaint handling ▲survey on infant eating behavior ▲education to reduce sugar intake ▲loans from the Food Promotion Fund.

With this award, the district secured an incentive of 50 million KRW, which will be allocated in the 2024 food hygiene project budget to improve the district's food hygiene standards.

Ryu Kyung-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, stated, "As consumption of processed and dining-out foods increases, providing safe food to residents is very important," and added, "We will continue to strive to improve food hygiene standards so that Jungnang-gu residents can have safe and hygienic food distributed with peace of mind."
