Gyeonggi Province will implement the "5th Seasonal Fine Dust Management Plan" from December this year to March next year.
Accordingly, during this period, 610,000 Grade 5 vehicles nationwide will be restricted from operating in Gyeonggi Province. Additionally, Gyeonggi Province will intensively crack down on illegal activities at air emission business sites using advanced monitoring equipment such as scanning LiDAR.
The Seasonal Fine Dust Management Plan is a system that enforces strengthened fine dust emission reduction and management measures from December to March of the following year, when ultrafine dust concentrations are particularly high due to seasonal factors, based on the "Special Act on Fine Dust."
It was first introduced in 2019 and is now in its fifth year.
In line with the 5th seasonal management period, Gyeonggi Province has set the target average concentration of ultrafine dust (PM2.5) at 26㎍/㎥ and selected 20 implementation tasks across six major sectors including transportation, industry, daily life, and health protection to promote.
On December 1, when the seasonal management begins, Gyeonggi Province will hold a campaign at Suwon Station together with the Seoul Metropolitan Air Quality Management Office to inform the public about ways to reduce fine dust in daily life and encourage active participation.
Cha Seong-su, Director of the Climate, Environment, and Energy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "This winter, although temperatures are higher than usual and the El Ni?o effect makes ultrafine dust management challenging, we will do our best to protect the health of residents by strengthening and supplementing source-specific countermeasures."
