Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Ilhyung Lee Participates in 'Trust Challenge' Relay Campaign

Dongdaemun District Mayor Ilhyung Lee participated in the ‘#Believe’ challenge on the 29th to establish a culture of proper respect for teachers' authority.

The ‘#Believe’ challenge is a nationwide relay challenge initiated to address the recent issue of declining respect for teachers' authority by redefining the role of parents in education and spreading awareness of a mature educational culture, thereby fostering a healthy school environment. This challenge, which began in August this year with the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education, has seen active participation from education and administrative officials, as well as students, parents, teachers, and the general public.

Mayor Ilhyung Lee of Dongdaemun District, who was nominated by Jisangwook, the People Power Party’s district committee chair for Jung-gu and Seongdong-gu B, joined the campaign by taking a photo with a signboard bearing the phrase ‘Believe, Let’s Join Together, Our School’ and posting it on his personal SNS account. He recommended Gangnam District Mayor Seongmyeong Jo, Seocho District Mayor Seongsu Jeon, and Dongjak District Mayor Ilha Park as the next participants in the campaign.

Mayor Ilhyung Lee of Dongdaemun District stated, “I am honored to participate in this challenge. I hope that through this challenge, students, teachers, and parents at schools will create a healthy culture of mutual respect,” and added, “Dongdaemun District will also actively strive to establish a healthy and trustworthy school culture.”

Meanwhile, the district supported education expenses with over 10 billion KRW in 2023 to promote students’ academic achievement and improve educational conditions. Additionally, various projects are being implemented for students, including ▲providing customized academic improvement programs for each school ▲operating creative arts and physical education ▲supporting future science education to strengthen public education ▲operating eco-friendly school meals for healthy school life ▲providing enrollment preparation funds for elementary, middle, and high school students ▲running native English experience classes in partnership with Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.
