KCC Construction announced on the 29th that it has established a site safety management system utilizing artificial intelligence (AI). Through this safety system, the company is enhancing safety management at construction sites and improving construction quality, thereby increasing its competitiveness.
Earlier this year, KCC Construction introduced the ‘AI Video Analysis System,’ a site safety management system using AI. This system automatically identifies over 20 types of objects and hazardous situations categorized by disaster types (such as falls, overturns, entrapments, fires, and falling objects). It enables real-time alerts and feedback on dangerous situations. To achieve this, approximately one million images were trained using video analysis techniques such as machine learning and deep learning. The system was jointly developed and completed with AI industry leader Aicle Systems.
This system is characterized by its AI engine that instantly detects hazards in CCTV footage on-site and provides real-time alerts about dangerous situations. Alerts are immediately communicated to workers through on-site speakers. Notifications can also be received via an application installed on the site manager’s smartphone. Additionally, real-time monitoring is possible through large monitors in the site office.
KCC Construction is also developing an ‘AI CCTV’ based on edge computing to enable functionality even in shaded areas within construction sites. This development takes into account the unstable communication conditions typical of construction sites. The project is being pursued in collaboration with security CCTV specialist manufacturers Hiteuron Systems and Aicle Systems.
KCC Construction plans to further advance the system in the future. The company intends to continuously supplement the system by adding more training data on hazardous situations and objects, expanding the AI recognition targets currently applied in part to cover all hazardous situations.
Moreover, KCC Construction expects synergy with the IoT-based integrated safety platform KOSMO, which is currently applied on-site. Tailored to the characteristics of different site types, the safety management system is expected to be further strengthened with goals such as ▲ real-time hazardous environment monitoring using IoT sensors ▲ prevention of heavy equipment accidents ▲ ensuring a safe working environment for workers in dangerous zones.
A KCC Construction official stated, “We are continuously striving to eliminate safety blind spots and improve construction quality by utilizing advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things. The foundation of these achievements lies in a solid cooperative system with small and strong companies possessing leading technological capabilities, and we will continue to strengthen and develop these partnerships going forward.”
