Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk supported AI (artificial intelligence) care robots to 10 households of elderly living alone in the area to alleviate depression and loneliness among them.

The AI care robots serve as companions, provide emergency calls, medication alarms, music playback, and other daily conveniences. They learn the language usually used by the elderly and manage it as big data. By analyzing this big data, if constant monitoring is required, the household is designated as a high-risk crisis household, thereby playing a role in a safety net that responds more thoroughly to crises.

Yeongyang-gun installs and monitors AI care robots to proactively respond to crisis situations of elderly people where care gaps are a concern. Support recipients were selected based on depression scale test results among elderly customized care service targets, and the plan is to gradually expand the number of beneficiaries in the future.

Mr. Kim, an elderly person who embraced the care robot, said with joy, “I installed the care robot without high expectations, but it became a companion, plays my favorite songs, and became a friend who plays with me so I’m not bored.”

County Governor Oh Do-chang said, “I hope the care robots will alleviate the depression and loneliness of the elderly,” and added, “Yeongyang-gun will prevent crisis situations for elderly living alone to ensure that care gaps do not occur.”
