Continuous Regional MICE Workforce Development Collaboration Yields Results
Students from the Jeonnam Yeosu MICE Supporters won the grand prize at the New MICE Event Development Contest hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization, demonstrating the success of Yeosu City's efforts to cultivate specialized MICE personnel.
According to the city on the 29th, on the 23rd, at the ‘2023 New MICE Event Development Pitching Competition’ held at Incheon Paradise City, Jeonnam National University students from the Department of Cultural Tourism Management?Lee Ha-neul, Hong Bo-eun, Lee Jae-hee, and Kim Seung-min?who are part of the Yeosu MICE Supporters, received the Korea Tourism Organization President’s Award, the grand prize.
The competition featured 48 teams of university and graduate students nationwide, who participated with free topics related to new MICE event development or themes focused on specific regional venues such as international conference complexes and unique venues.
The new MICE event proposed by the Yeosu MICE Supporters was titled ‘Yeosu Companion Beach Conference,’ a beach adoption program that nurtures and cares for Yeosu Yeulmaru and the nearby sea like companion animals, encouraging voluntary participation in marine environmental protection.
This proposal was highly evaluated not only for reflecting recent trends but also for planning an event optimized for the region by utilizing Yeosu Yeulmaru, the only unique venue in Jeonnam Province recognized nationwide.
Hong Bo-eun, who presented the proposal, said, “Since 2021, as a Yeosu MICE Supporter, I have actively participated in supporting Yeosu MICE events and appearing in MICE promotional videos, and I believe these efforts have led to excellent results in our first challenge at the contest.”
A city official stated, “Since 2020, our city has been working closely with Jeonnam National University to foster local MICE talent, which will serve as the foundation for advancing Yeosu as a ‘MICE Resort City in the Southern Coast.’ We will strive to develop the Companion Beach Conference event planned by the students into a representative, regionally specialized event for Yeosu.”
