Lam Research, First Tenant in Yongin Semiconductor Cluster
Yongin Campus Office Building to be Completed by July Next Year
Strengthening Support for Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix Customers
Growing Expectations for 'HBM' Led by Both Companies
American semiconductor equipment company Lam Research is establishing a campus in the semiconductor cluster in Yongin, aiming for completion next year to strengthen support for its clients Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. The company plans to expand its business in the Korean market, a major revenue source, and contribute to the domestic semiconductor industry.
On the 28th, Lam Research Korea unveiled to the media the Korea Technology Center, a comprehensive research and development (R&D) facility in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, and the Technical Training Center in Dongtan, which provides equipment training for customers and employees. This was the first media event in 34 years since the company officially started business in Korea, highlighting the importance of its Korean operations and explaining the plans for the Yongin campus.

Lam Research is building a campus in the Yongin semiconductor cluster to closely support domestic customers such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. In April last year, it unveiled the 30,000㎡ Korea Technology Center and is currently constructing an office building with a target completion date of July next year. This is to relocate both the Technical Training Center previously located in Dongtan and the Korean headquarters in Pangyo to this site.
The company plans to operate all major business sectors?including manufacturing plants, logistics centers, customer support centers, training, and R&D centers?within the K-semiconductor belt. Korea ranks second in global sales proportion, and Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, which dominate the memory market, operate semiconductor factories in nearby areas. A strategic new product will be launched early next year. Equipment produced in Korea using domestic components surpassed 10,000 units in cumulative exports as of May.
Recognizing the importance of its domestic business, Lam Research announced plans to increase various investments going forward. Additionally, since domestic companies lead the high-bandwidth memory (HBM) market for artificial intelligence (AI) memory, the company expects significant benefits from related businesses. Lee Sang-won, CEO of Lam Research Korea, said, "Lam Research holds a high market share in the advanced packaging sector, so as HBM grows, profits will also increase," adding, "We will strengthen cooperation with partners as we relocate to the Yongin campus."

Lam Research, headquartered in Fremont, California, USA, is a semiconductor equipment manufacturer established in 1980. It began operations in Korea in 1989 and introduced Lam Research Manufacturing Korea, its manufacturing division, in 2011 to promote equipment localization. This year, global sales are expected to reach approximately KRW 22.6 trillion (USD 17.4 billion). Market research firm TechInsights reported that Lam Research ranked third in the global semiconductor equipment market last year.
