Jokuk Compares Yoon Government to 'Chimpanzees' at Book Concert
"Yoon Core Group Like Apes... Understandable When Seeing Chimpanzees"
"Females Never Become Number One" Remark Also Made
“Writer Yoo Si-min called Yoon Seok-yeol personally or the Yoon Seok-yeol government a chimpanzee group, and I think that is appropriate.” (Former Minister Cho Kuk)
“Senior Yoo Si-min seems to have missed one thing. At least in chimpanzee society, a female never rises to the top.” (Former Congressman Choi Kang-wook)
Former Congressman Choi Kang-wook, who was disciplined by the Democratic Party for saying that “females come out and make a fuss” targeting the Yoon Seok-yeol government, was found to have made a similar remark the day before. This statement was made at a book concert for former Minister Cho Kuk’s book 'The Tears of Dike' held in Jeonju on the 18th.
"In chimpanzee society, females never rise to first place"
On that day, former Congressman Choi said, “Senior Yoo Si-min said something like this. 'Because we are a species of primates evolved from chimpanzees, the current reality in our country is exactly like what chimpanzees do,' and 'You can understand very well if you look at chimpanzees,'” starting his remarks.
In response, former Minister Cho said, “I think it is very appropriate,” and pointed out, “As you may have seen recently in the media, the group called Yoon Core Officials (Yoonhaekgwan) is being ousted again. Repeatedly using and discarding them at certain times is like chimpanzees.” Former Congressman Choi then said, “It’s strange. When you look at the Yoon Core Officials, people who look somewhat like apes keep appearing,” which drew laughter from the audience.
He also said, “However, I have a counterargument to Senior Yoo Si-min’s view,” and after former Minister Cho agreed, he said, “I have mentioned this in several places. At least in chimpanzee society, females never rise to first place,” making the controversial 'female remark.' When laughter spread between former Minister Cho and the audience, former Congressman Choi added, “Please think about it slowly, what I mean.”
'Making a fuss is a female' remark leads to party disciplinary action
On the following day, the 19th, at a book concert for Congressman Min Hyung-bae’s book 'The Politics of Leaving the Party,' former Congressman Choi said, “Even in the novel 'Animal Farm,' females rarely come out and make a fuss,” and added, “I am not disparaging females; making a fuss just means calling a female a female.”
As this fact became known, a controversy over misogyny immediately erupted. As the controversy grew, the Democratic Party leadership moved to contain the situation, stating they would not tolerate disparaging remarks. Eventually, on the 22nd, the party’s Supreme Council decided to suspend former Congressman Choi’s party membership rights for six months.
"What did Choi Kang-wook do wrong?"… "Am I the villain?" reaction

However, in response to this disciplinary decision, hardline supporters strongly opposed it by posting comments on party member communities such as “What did Choi Kang-wook do wrong to have his party membership suspended?” “Stop unnecessary disciplinary actions,” and “Considering the entire context, what’s wrong with calling someone female?”
Former Congressman Choi also appeared on a YouTube channel on the 28th and showed a seemingly aggrieved attitude, saying, “Am I really the villain?” in response to ongoing media coverage related to the 'female remark.'
Meanwhile, former Congressman Choi lost his seat after the Supreme Court confirmed an 8-month prison sentence with a 2-year probation in September for issuing a false internship certificate to former Minister Cho Kuk’s son.
