A K-culture complex cultural space equipped with a K-pop dance studio, YouTube studio, small performance hall, and gallery has opened in Myeongdong.
Jung-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gil-seong) completed the creation of Myeongdong ArtBreeze and held an opening ceremony on the 28th with about 50 guests and residents.
Myeongdong is a representative tourist destination in South Korea and the most popular spot for foreign tourists. Reflecting the growing interest in K-culture, the district created a space where tourists visiting Myeongdong can experience culture and arts. Residents are also expected to enjoy various cultural programs, increasing cultural satisfaction.
Myeongdong ArtBreeze (52-20 Namdaemun-ro) spans from basement level 3 to the 6th floor, with a total floor area of 1,629.77㎡. It utilizes a building donated under the detailed development plan for the KT site special planning zone within the Myeongdong Tourism Special District unit plan.
The basement 2nd floor houses a YouTube studio, basement 1st floor a small performance hall, 1st and 2nd floors a lobby and cafe, 3rd floor a gallery, 5th floor a dance studio, and 6th floor a program room. It operates ▲YouTube filming and editing ▲K-pop dance ▲various Korean cultural experience programs. Additionally, it hosts diverse exhibitions and small-scale cultural performances year-round and rents out the space.
True to its ambition to become a cultural landmark in Myeongdong, careful attention was paid not only to the space but also to content and instructors. Each class features top-tier instructors to provide high-quality programs.
First, instructor Ham Ji-eun, the dance teacher for the world-renowned group BLACKPINK, teaches K-pop dance. Visitors can properly learn K-pop dance in a spacious dedicated studio overlooking the Myeongdong area. A folk painting class by artist Jung Jae-eun, who showcased sophisticated works such as Ilwol Obongdo in the film "The King's Letters," is also offered.
Other programs include a meditation class led by Monk Cheongmok of the Jogye Order, a singing bowl class by Kim Saraswati, the founder of singing bowls in Korea, and beginner golf theory education by professional golfer An Si-hyun, known as the Cinderella of the golf world.
On the 3rd floor gallery, the opening commemorative exhibition "Let The Sunshine In - Lee Kyung-mi Exhibition" is held. Lee Kyung-mi, a painter famous as the "cat artist," welcomes visitors with works depicting travel stories with her pet cat "Nana."
The district plans to operate programs for local small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners in the future. The YouTube-dedicated studio will provide education from basic video shooting to production and platform utilization to support business using YouTube.
Starting with the opening ceremony, applications for December programs are currently being accepted. Detailed information and application methods can be found on the Myeongdong ArtBreeze website.
Kim Gil-seong, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, “There is intense interest in Korean culture such as K-pop, dramas, and movies overseas. We are pleased to open a space where tourists visiting Myeongdong can experience Korean culture alongside tourism and shopping,” and added, “We will continue to add new attractions so that visitors to Myeongdong can enjoy various pleasures.”
