The Seo-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 27th that it adopted the 'Resolution Urging the Ministry of Environment to Withdraw the ‘Single-use Products Management Plan’' proposed by Representative Omiseop.
Representative Oh stated, "It is the government's incompetence that it failed to organize related systems and reach social consensus during the one-year guidance period," adding, "The Ministry of Environment's single-use products management plan is an environmentally unfriendly policy that accelerates the climate crisis."
The Ministry of Environment announced a single-use products management plan on the 7th, which includes the indefinite extension of the guidance period for plastic straws and the withdrawal of the ban on paper cup usage, following the end of the single-use products guidance period.
However, according to data released by the Korea Federation for Environmental Movements on the 24th, 81.4% support the introduction of regulatory policies to solve the single-use product waste problem, and 77.1% support strengthening regulatory policies on single-use paper cups and straws used inside restaurants and stores.
Regarding the Ministry of Environment's announcement to withdraw and postpone single-use product regulations, 50.2% expressed negative opinions.
Representative Oh is actively engaged in legislative activities to respond to the climate crisis and realize carbon-neutral environmental policies by leading the proposal of the 'Ordinance to Support the Activation of Reusable Containers' at the 317th 2nd regular session.
