People Power Party Strategy Planning Deputy Chief, KBS Interview
"Innovation in Candidate Selection Led the Party to Success"
Bae Jun-young, Deputy Head of Strategic Planning for the People Power Party, said on the 27th, "There is an analysis that parties that conduct a large-scale replacement of incumbents have a higher chance of winning," adding, "In 2008, our party's rate of incumbent replacement was twice as high as that of the Democratic Party, and we won by a large margin."
Deputy Head Bae appeared on KBS's 'Special 1 Radio Today' on the same day and stated, "Looking at our party's history, what breathed hope into a wavering party and ultimately led to success was innovative candidate selection."
The People Power Party's General Election Planning Team has announced plans to implement a stricter cutoff system than the 'exclusion of the bottom 20% of incumbent National Assembly members from candidate nomination' recommended by the Party Innovation Committee. As a member of the General Election Planning Team, Deputy Head Bae explained, "We will increase quantitative evaluations as much as possible, including public opinion polls, and raise moral standards significantly," adding, "We have defined secondary sexual violence, workplace harassment, school violence, and drug crimes as the new four major evils and decided to exclude such cases entirely from candidate nominations."
Regarding the Innovation Committee's recommendation for senior and pro-Yoon faction lawmakers to voluntarily step down, he predicted, "The actual resignation of senior members will be based on their own decisions, but at least by the time the regular National Assembly session concludes and the Candidate Management Committee can support it, and before the Innovation Committee finishes its work, all of this should be completed. Therefore, many significant events will occur during this overlapping period."
Concerning Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong's remarks hinting at running in a challenging district, Deputy Head Bae evaluated, "It is a commendable statement," adding, "Minister Won has served three terms as a National Assembly member, was re-elected as Governor of Jeju Province, and served as a minister, making him a nationally recognized figure. At this point, he seems to clearly understand what he should do and what party members and the public expect from him."
