[Rebuttal Report] Article Related

This newspaper, in the article dated June 22, 2023, titled <Prosecution calls Song Young-gil's mention of ‘Tablet PC manipulation theory’ “baseless remarks not worth responding to”>, reported a rebuttal stance through the Prosecutor General and prosecution officials stating that the claim that the tablet, which triggered the national corruption scandal, was manipulated by the prosecution is false or unfounded, in relation to the remarks by former Democratic Party leader Song Young-gil citing the assertion of Byun Hee-jae, Media Watch representative advisor.

However, regarding the report, Advisor Byun stated, “The prosecution’s claim exceeded the scope of the court’s judgment or did not reflect the specific litigation progress and content,” and informed that “Although the court ruled that there was no evidence manipulation, the issue of tablet manipulation was not a point of contention in his own first trial of the criminal case or related trials, so it has not been judged by the court so far.”

Advisor Byun also claimed, “The prosecution calls the tablet manipulation claim a ‘rumor,’ but the claim is supported by scientific forensic examination results and testimonies.”

Furthermore, Advisor Byun argued, “A prosecution official stated that ‘the claim of manipulation of the SK Telecom subscription contract related to Choi Soon-sil’s tablet is baseless,’ but whether the contract was manipulated is currently under dispute in related litigation.”
