"At Least 100 Million" Diana Pink Blouse to Be Auctioned

Dress Worn During Visit to Florence Also Up for Auction

A pink blouse worn by Diana, Princess of Wales, in the portrait photo used during the announcement of her engagement in 1981 is going up for auction. The winning bid is expected to exceed 100 million won.

According to the British daily The Guardian on the 25th (local time), the outfit designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel will be featured in an auction event held by auction house Julien's Auctions and the American film channel Turner Classic Movies (TCM) from the 14th to the 17th of next month in Beverly Hills, USA. The estimated winning bid is $80,000 to $100,000 (approximately 100 million to 130 million won).

The photo of Princess Diana wearing this outfit was published in Vogue magazine alongside the official announcement of her engagement to then Prince Charles in February 1981. The outfit was also displayed in a 2019 exhibition at Kensington Palace focused on Princess Diana's fashion.

The auction event, themed "Legends of Hollywood," will also feature an evening dress worn by Princess Diana.

The dress, worn by Princess Diana during her visit to Florence, Italy, in April 1985, is expected to fetch between $100,000 and $200,000 (approximately 130 million to 260 million won).

In addition, clothes worn by classic Hollywood stars such as Audrey Hepburn’s Givenchy dress from the 1963 comedy film "Charade," as well as outfits from Gloria Swanson and Barbra Streisand, will be auctioned.

An Apple PowerBook G3 laptop used by the main character Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) for writing in the popular American drama "Sex and the City" will also be up for auction, with an estimated price of $800 to $1,200 (approximately 1.04 million to 1.56 million won).

Meanwhile, in September, Princess Diana’s "Black Sheep" sweater sold for $1.14 million (approximately 1.5 billion won) at a Sotheby’s auction in New York, USA.

The sweater was worn by Princess Diana at a polo match in June 1981, shortly after her engagement to then Prince Charles. It features a pattern of white sheep lined up on a red background with one black sheep in the middle.

AFP news agency interpreted the sweater as seemingly foreshadowing the "difficult journey" Princess Diana would face within the British royal family.

Sotheby’s initially estimated the winning bid for the sweater to be between $50,000 and $80,000 (approximately 66 million to 100 million won). However, bidding surged, and the final bid soared to $1.14 million. Sotheby’s stated that this sweater sold for the highest price ever for a piece of Princess Diana’s clothing at auction.
