On the 23rd, Gumi City in Gyeongbuk held a meeting of the Infectious Disease Response Regional Working Council to strengthen the public-private cooperative infectious disease crisis preparedness and response system at the open yard of Gumi Health Center.

The meeting was attended by a total of 26 members, including officials from related organizations such as Gumi Police Station, Gumi Office of Education, Gumi Fire Station, emergency medical institutions, and private organizations. They shared cases of COVID-19 response by each agency over the past four years, received a lecture on the importance of epidemiology from an epidemiologist at Gumi Health Center, and exchanged opinions on cooperation measures to prepare for the next pandemic.

In particular, this meeting followed the ‘Infectious Disease Response Regional Council’ held in May, which was centered on decision-makers, and included in-depth discussions among field practitioners on the direction to take for the prevention and response to infectious disease outbreaks.

The Gumi Infectious Disease Response Regional Council is a public-private cooperative body composed of Gumi emergency medical institutions and major organizations to build a safe community free from infectious diseases. To perform tasks efficiently, it has established a working council that continuously strives to strengthen communication on the ground.

Choi Hyun-joo, director of Gumi Health Center, expressed gratitude for the active cooperation in responding to COVID-19, stating, “As the cycle of emerging infectious diseases is shortening due to climate warming and overseas inflow, the importance of inter-agency cooperation systems for infectious disease response is being further strengthened. The city will actively collect various opinions from field workers and reflect them in infectious disease policies.”
