Yang Hyang-ja, a lawmaker leading the third zone new party 'Hope of Korea,' revealed that she has received many merger proposals from the People Power Party but has no intention of merging. Instead, she expressed openness to former lawmaker Geum Tae-seop's 'New Choice' or the new party reportedly being promoted by former leader Lee Jun-seok, with whom she is jointly pushing for a third zone new party.
On the 24th, Yang stated on KBS '1 Radio Today,' "It is true that I have received several offers to join from figures leading the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, and in fact, I have also received many merger proposals," revealing this.
The day before, Yang gave a lecture titled 'Nurturing Science and Technology Talent and Politics' to innovation committee members at the People Power Party headquarters in Yeouido. As news of her lecture spread, there was speculation that the People Power Party might be moving to recruit her.
However, she said, "On a personal level, I am very grateful for the proposals," but added, "Artificial power alliances aiming to gain votes in the general election through mergers do not earn the trust of the people. Our goal is not merger but governance," drawing a clear line.
Instead, she expressed openness to alliances with other new parties. In response to the host's question about whether she is discussing alliances with Lee Jun-seok's and Geum Tae-seop's new parties, Yang said, "The structure for discussions is open with any forces, whether policy alliances or debates," adding, "In that context, I also had talks with the People Power Party yesterday, and we are having many discussions with Geum Tae-seop and even members of the Justice Party. If they are truly committed to reforming politics centered on the nation, I believe we should work together based on that sincerity, value, and vision."
When asked about her 'goal for next year's general election,' Yang said, "The goal for next year's general election is to make the public recognize that 'Hope of Korea is the only party we can trust,'" adding, "Only the people can end the politics of the two-party war in next year's general election. It is important that we prepare properly so that the people can make that choice."
