Kookmin University Global Startup Venture Graduate School Prepares for a New Leap

Kookmin University Campus Town Holds Launch Ceremony for 10th Anniversary Event Preparation Committee

The Graduate School of Global Startup and Venture at Kookmin University (Dean Kim Do-hyun) held the inauguration ceremony for the 10th anniversary event preparation committee on November 8th at the Kookmin University Campus Town.

Kookmin University’s Graduate School of Global Startup and Venture (Dean Kim Do-hyun), the first and only national policy startup graduate school among comprehensive universities in Seoul, is celebrating its 10th anniversary next year. To systematically prepare for the commemorative event, the school appointed Kim Hong-tae (alumnus) as the preparation committee chair and Jo Mi-sook (alumna), Lim Han-gyu (alumnus), and Park Chang-woo (graduate student) as senior vice chairs, and held the inauguration ceremony.

The Graduate School of Global Startup and Venture at Kookmin University is organized into four tracks: startup incubation investment, startup education, venturing, and ESG social ventures. Each track is staffed with full-time professors who combine practical startup experience with theoretical knowledge. Since 2023, a doctoral program in entrepreneurship has also been established, providing continuous academic pathways in the startup field through linkage with the master’s program. Many graduate students who have already obtained their master’s degrees have applied to transition their careers into the startup sector.

Additionally, Kookmin University, as the lead institution for various government projects, conducts diverse linked projects centered on graduate students and offers opportunities to serve as mentors in the startup field both inside and outside the university. Especially for students preparing to start their ventures, the university connects them with the Kookmin University Startup Incubation Center, the Kookmin University Campus Town Project Group, the Eunpyeong-gu Startup Support Center, and various support systems to assist with office space, personnel support, and commercialization of startup ideas.

Kim Do-hyun, Dean of the Graduate School of Global Startup and Venture at Kookmin University, stated, “Over the past nine years, our graduate school has produced various experts in the startup field and established itself as a cradle for career transitions. Marking the 10th anniversary next year, we are preparing for a new leap forward. We will spare no effort to provide systematic support to nurture startup education experts, global venture business development specialists, and innovative entrepreneurs who can actively participate in domestic and international startup ecosystems.”

The application period for the 2024 first semester master’s program at the Graduate School of Global Startup and Venture at Kookmin University is from November 20 to December 1, and applications can be submitted through the graduate school’s website. Selection is based on document screening (30%), study plan (40%), and interview (30%). All selected new students will receive a certain amount of internal scholarships.
