A man in his 30s, a contract teacher, was involved in a sexual molestation incident with male middle school students. On the 20th, the Seoul Western Police Station announced that they had booked Mr. A, a man in his 30s, without detention on charges including violation of the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles from Sexual Abuse. Mr. A is suspected of sexually molesting multiple male students. The police also conducted a search and seizure at Mr. A's residence.
A police official stated, "We cannot disclose specific details of the charges out of consideration for the victims." The school where Mr. A worked reported him to the police at the end of last month, and it has been confirmed that several related complaints have been filed. The school is conducting a comprehensive survey of all students and operating counseling programs. The police are expanding the investigation, placing significant weight on the possibility of more victims.
Meanwhile, under the Act on the Protection of Children and Juveniles from Sexual Abuse, anyone who molests a minor faces imprisonment for at least two years or a fine ranging from 10 million to 30 million won. In particular, if the victim is under 13 years old, the law mandates imprisonment without the option of a fine. The police stated, "After investigating the specific circumstances of the crime, we plan to review whether to request an arrest warrant."
