People Power Party New City Project 'Special Act on Administrative Integration' Announced
Procedure Simplification Advantage... Cho Gyeong-tae "Unify and Incorporate All at Once"
The People Power Party's New City Project Special Committee announced on the 20th that it will promote the 'Special Act on Administrative Integration,' which simultaneously proceeds with the procedure for incorporating cities in Gyeonggi Province, including Gimpo, Guri, and Hanam, into Seoul.

Cho Kyung-tae, the special committee chairman, said at a briefing after the 4th meeting at the National Assembly, "If each case is proposed separately, it could cause confusion. The special act aims to simplify the procedure to facilitate integration."
The People Power Party previously submitted a special act to the National Assembly for the incorporation of Gimpo into Seoul. They plan to promote a special act that bundles nearby cities wishing to be incorporated into Seoul into one unified incorporation procedure.
The special committee will also discuss including an exception clause in the special act that allows cities like Gimpo to retain some of the authority they previously held even after being incorporated into Seoul.
Targeting Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon, who criticized the ruling party's New City Project as an election ploy, they responded, "We are not sure if he is really an economic bureaucrat," adding, "This was a presidential campaign pledge of both major parties. We will continue to push it forward even after the general election."
