Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 20th that it will hold the 'Policy Proposal Contest for the Million-Population City Hwaseong' ahead of surpassing a population of 1 million.

This contest aims to discover creative policy ideas in anticipation of reaching a population of 1 million by the end of the year, and will be held for 20 days from today until the 9th of next month.

The population of Hwaseong was only 210,000 when it was promoted to city status in 2001, but it has grown fivefold in 22 years. In particular, if the population remains at 1 million by the end of next year following this year, Hwaseong will become the fifth city in the country to obtain special city status.

The contest theme is 'Million Hwaseong, One Million Policy Ideas - If it is a million-population city, I wish ___ would be done,' and includes ▲ policy proposals that need to be changed ▲ policy proposals that need to be supplemented ▲ new policy proposals. Anyone, including Hwaseong citizens and the general public, can participate.

Applicants can download the proposal form from the Hwaseong City website, fill it out, and submit it online through the 'National Idea Box (www.epeople.go.kr/idea)' or send it by mail or visit the Policy Planning Division of Hwaseong City Hall to submit it in person.

To commemorate surpassing a population of 1 million, the city will also hold the 'Million Hwaseong Festival Where Imagination Becomes Reality, 1 Million Hwaseong Future Vision Proclamation Ceremony' at Dongtan Lake Park on the 25th.

Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun of Hwaseong said, "We will prepare so that this festival becomes a place of harmony and enjoyment with the 1 million citizens."

Meanwhile, Kia Autoland Hwaseong and Hyundai Motor Namyang Research Center plan to present the latest electric vehicles to the 1,000,000th and 1,000,030th citizens, respectively.
