Increased Commuting Difficulties and Safety Concerns for Students Due to Delay in Elementary School Establishment in Gokang District
Expecting Student Number Growth with 12BL Private Sale Decision... Full Efforts to Establish School
Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced on the 20th that the 12BL residential land in the Godeok Gangil district has been finally decided to be sold to the private sector.
Since the inauguration of the 8th local government, the district has been striving to ensure that the 12BL in the Godeok Gangil public housing district is supplied through private sales as originally planned. In particular, Mayor Lee Soo-hee of Gangdong-gu has devoted all efforts to ensure that 12BL proceeds with private sales as planned by continuously proposing and consulting with related agencies such as the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Minister, the Minister of Education, the Mayor of Seoul, the President of SH Corporation, and the Prime Minister's Office.
The Godeok Gangil 3 district, where 12BL is located, currently has a planned school site, but the establishment of the school has been delayed due to a lack of students, causing significant inconvenience for students commuting. Especially, elementary school students have to cross a major road three times or take a school bus from 8 a.m., raising concerns about the safety of their commute.
Following the announcement of the urban campus (branch school) model by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education last October, Godeok Gangil 3 district was mentioned as a candidate site. With the recent decision to sell 12BL to the private sector, an increase in the number of students is expected, raising local residents' expectations for the establishment of a school (urban campus) in the area.
Mayor Lee Soo-hee of Gangdong-gu said, “I am pleased that the decision to sell the 12BL residential land in the Godeok Gangil district to the private sector will give more momentum to the establishment of a school (urban campus) in Godeok Gangil 3 district.” He added, “We will work closely with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, SH Corporation, and local residents to ensure that the establishment of a school in Godeok Gangil 3 district is promptly promoted.”
