Nowon-gu, Seoul (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will hold a special bio lecture by inviting Professor Kim Jong-sung from Boston University, USA, to successfully promote the ‘Seoul Nowon Biomedical Cluster.’
This lecture was made possible by the official invitation from the district to Professor Kim Jong-sung, who is currently a professor at the Questrom School of Business at Boston University, president of the Korean American Bio Industry Council (KABIC), and CEO of K2B Therapeutics, a company developing anticancer drugs at LabCentral in the heart of Boston.
As part of the business agreement signed in March between the district and the Korean American Bio Industry Council (KABIC) in Boston, USA, this event aims to share trends and foundational environmental information in the bio field and to promote joint research and policy development.
The lecture will be held under the theme “Known and Hidden Secrets of the Boston Bio Cluster ? Suggestions for the Seoul Nowon Bio Vision.” It will vividly introduce experiences from the Boston bio ecosystem, the global center of the bio industry, and provide advice on the successful direction for the Seoul Nowon Cluster.
The ‘Seoul Nowon Biomedical Cluster’ project is a plan to develop a bio-medical complex centered around hospitals on approximately 250,000㎡ of land, including the Changdong Vehicle Depot and Dobong Driver’s License Test Site, the last large-scale development sites remaining in Seoul. Since the 7th local government term, the district has been promoting this as a core priority project to become a vibrant self-sufficient city through the creation of quality jobs.
The lecture will be held on the 23rd at 4 p.m. in the large auditorium on the 2nd floor of the district office, and anyone interested can participate. Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis without prior registration.
In addition to the bio expert lecture, the district plans to hold a service report meeting to derive implications and present models through analysis of the Boston bio cluster’s success cases, as well as an expert panel discussion with Professor Kwon Ik-chan (KIST), co-founder of K2B Therapeutics, Lee Seung-gyu, vice chairman of the Korea Bio Association, and Kim Hyun-woo, director of the Seoul Bio Hub Project Group, to strengthen international exchange and mutual cooperation with the Korean American Bio Industry Council (KABIC). Furthermore, the district will tour various local sites to review conditions for establishing the bio complex and share opinions necessary for the successful creation of the cluster.
Oh Seung-rok, mayor of Nowon-gu, said, “Professor Kim Jong-sung is a bio expert who has successfully led a venture company developing innovative anticancer drugs in Boston, the world’s number one bio mecca,” adding, “Through this invitation, we will continue efforts to successfully establish the biomedical cluster together with residents and experts.”
