Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that it will operate the 'Child Abuse Prevention Week' starting from the 19th in celebration of the '17th Child Abuse Prevention Day.'
Child Abuse Prevention Day is designated as a legal memorial day on November 19th every year according to Article 23 of the Child Welfare Act to raise public awareness about the prevention and suppression of child abuse and to promote the safe growth of children.
Accordingly, Buk-gu has prepared a Child Abuse Prevention Week from the 19th to the 25th, during which it will hold a 'commemorative ceremony' and a 'child abuse prevention campaign' to spread a social culture where children can be respected under a bright family environment.
The commemorative ceremony will be held on the 20th at 3 p.m. in the large conference room on the 3rd floor of Buk-gu Office under the theme "Positive Parenting for the Happiness of Both Parents and Children." About 80 workers from child-related organizations such as child protection agencies and child welfare facilities will attend, and the event will proceed in the order of ▲commendation of meritorious persons ▲reading of the declaration ▲symbolic ceremony for child abuse prevention.
Also, during the Child Abuse Prevention Week, a campaign will be held in various facilities frequently used by the public such as hospitals, marts, and traditional markets in cooperation with the Northern Police Station, Eastern Education Support Office, Bitgoeul Child Protection Agency, and Kkum Namu Social Welfare Center to guide residents on the necessary roles to ensure that children live in a safe world anytime and anywhere.
A Buk-gu official said, "The first step to our children's happiness begins with respecting children as independent individuals based on communication and trust," adding, "We will do our best to create a social environment where all children in our region are respected and do not lose their bright smiles."
