Request for Support in Promoting Major Local Projects
Won Hee-ryong, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, visited Jinju City in Gyeongnam and held a meeting at the Jinju Chamber of Commerce and Industry to listen to the on-site difficulties and suggestions of companies.
The meeting held on the 17th was attended by about 20 people, including Mayor Jo Gyu-il, National Assembly member Kang Min-guk, Kim Byung-gyu, Deputy Governor for Economy of Gyeongsangnam-do, Lee Young-chun, Chairman of the Jinju Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and major local businesspeople.
Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong held a meeting with entrepreneurs from Jinju.
The Jinju Chamber of Commerce and Industry and businesspeople requested support from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and related ministries, proposing ▲early commencement of the Southern Inland High-Speed Railway ▲opening of the double-track railway from Bujeon to Masan to Jinju ▲construction of a bypass road between Jinju (Jeongchon) and Sacheon ▲settlement and expansion of the Gyeongnam Jinju Innovation City ▲establishment of the Space Aviation Agency and creation of a space industry cluster ▲designation of a special zone for opportunity development ▲flexible working hours ▲expansion of foreign workforce quota system and applicable industries ▲improvement of the employment insurance system.
Mayor Jo reiterated requests for the prompt completion of the feasibility re-examination of the Southern Inland High-Speed Railway and support for the development of UAM (Urban Air Mobility) and AAV (Advanced Air Vehicle) industries, which fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
In particular, he emphasized the necessity of constructing a bypass road between Jinju (Jeongchon) and Sacheon, where road congestion is expected to worsen due to rapidly changing conditions such as the selection of the Munsan public housing district and the relocation of related institutions and companies following the establishment of the Space Aviation Agency, urging the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to take active measures.
In response, Minister Won said, “I fully understand the situation of Jinju City, the center of western Gyeongnam,” and gave a positive signal by stating, “The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and related ministries will actively review and support to ensure smooth project implementation.”
