Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) held a “Love Kimchi Sharing” relay event, wishing for vulnerable groups to have a warm winter.

On the 14th and 15th, the Gwangjin-gu Saemaul Women’s Association (President Jeon Tae-yeon) organized the “Making and Sharing Love Kimchi” event. Two hundred members of the Saemaul Women’s Association and volunteers united to make 9,000 kg of kimchi.

On the first day, the 14th, the kimchi filling was prepared. They carefully cleaned 2,600 heads of napa cabbage and 1,000 radishes, then enhanced the flavor using various ingredients such as red pepper powder, ginger, green onions, and salted seafood.

On the second day, they stuffed the kimchi filling and packed the kimchi. Each cabbage leaf was carefully coated with seasoning, and 900 boxes were filled with 10 kg of kimchi each. The kimchi boxes will be delivered to low-income households, district-run senior centers, local children’s centers, and welfare facilities for people with disabilities.

The Gwangjin-gu Council of the Movement for a Better Life (President Choi Doo-ho) also contributed. From the 16th to 17th, 90 members gathered to make 2,100 kg of kimchi, finishing ingredient preparation on the first day and filling the seasoning on the next day.

Despite the freezing cold weather below zero degrees Celsius, many people participated and shared warmth. The kimchi made on these days will be distributed to 210 households facing economic difficulties.

District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho also joined the kimchi relay to lend a hand. Mayor Kim said, “I thank everyone who practiced kimchi sharing for our neighbors despite the cold weather,” and added, “I will do my best to ensure that the warm hands of the community spread widely this winter.”

On the 20th, the Gwangjin Welfare Foundation will host the “1st Gwangjin Love Kimchi Festival” at the Naru Art Center plaza. They plan to make 10,000 kg of kimchi to support the food security of marginalized groups during the winter season.
