No More Wildfires in Uljin!
On the 16th, Uljin-gun, Gyeongbuk held a launch ceremony for autumn wildfire prevention at Wangpicheon Park Cultural Center, attended by over 200 people including specialized wildfire prevention and suppression teams and wildfire monitors.
The county established a wildfire prevention and suppression response system during the wildfire caution period from November 1 to December 31. At this autumn launch ceremony, the specialized wildfire prevention and suppression teams and wildfire monitors were appointed, and a pledge for wildfire prevention was read aloud to reinforce determination to prevent wildfires and minimize wildfire damage, assigning responsibilities and duties for wildfire prevention and suppression activities.
The Uljin-gun specialized wildfire prevention and suppression teams consist of about 50 members across 3 teams, who are deployed immediately upon wildfire occurrence and conduct suppression activities until the wildfire is extinguished. The 145 wildfire monitors patrol vulnerable areas in their respective towns and townships, enforce illegal burning crackdowns, and carry out wildfire prevention activities. Additionally, they will continuously manage and educate households using wood boilers through visits and will also assist elderly households with reprocessing.
The county will strictly crack down on unauthorized entry into restricted mountain areas and the burning of agricultural residues and waste near forest areas. When violations are detected, they will impose non-tolerant fines under the Forest Protection Act and further raise awareness of wildfire prevention by utilizing a wildfire offender reporting and reward system.
County Governor Son Byeong-bok emphasized, “With the increasing likelihood of large-scale wildfires due to climate change, wildfires must not occur in Uljin anymore,” and added, “We all must maintain vigilance against wildfires and do our best to prevent them.”
