Pukyong National University Holds '2023 Fisheries Industry Expert Course Completion Ceremony'

On the afternoon of the 16th, Pukyong National University held the '2023 Fisheries Industry Expert Course Completion Ceremony' at the Busan West District Advanced Seafood Processing Complex.


The Fisheries Industry Expert Course is a program designed to transfer advanced fisheries technology and trends to local seafood processing business owners and workers to secure the competitiveness of Busan's fisheries industry.


Since its establishment in 2012 by the Pukyong National University Seafood Processing Research Center under the commission of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and Busan City, the program has produced a total of about 360 fisheries professionals, including 34 this year.


The event was attended by Jeon Byung-su, Director of the Pukyong National University Seafood Processing Research Center, Lee Guk-jin, Head of the Fisheries Promotion Division of Busan City, representatives of the graduating class, and the graduates.


At the ceremony, 34 members of the 12th class received certificates of completion; Shin Jung-hyun, CEO of Shinna Food, received the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Award; Lim Chang-gyu, Deputy General Manager of Cheong-a Trading, received the Busan Mayor's Award; Kang Hyun-woo, CEO of Daebang Fisheries, received the Pukyong National University President's Award; and Jeong Geun-young, CEO of Offi, along with six others, received the Seafood Processing Research Center Director's Award.

This year, in response to the rapidly changing future fisheries industry, 100 hours of education were conducted based on trends in the seafood food industry, including theoretical and field training on the latest technological trends.


The training covered topics such as the marine discharge of treated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant and response measures, HMR market response strategies and seafood food packaging technology, applications of artificial intelligence technology in the fisheries industry, cases of building smart seafood processing factories, seafood tech, and digital marketing of seafood products.


Jeon Byung-su, Director of the Seafood Processing Research Center, stated, “The curriculum was designed to help trainees of the Fisheries Industry Expert Course respond to the rapidly changing fisheries industry and international situation after COVID-19.”


He added, “We will continue to strive to shift the mindset of Busan’s seafood processing industry, which relies on know-how, and to nurture fisheries experts who can lead the future fisheries industry.”


Pukyong National University plans to reflect the results of satisfaction surveys and lecture evaluations from the graduates in the 2024 education program.
