Icheon-si to Develop Large-Scale Sports Park in Jeungpo-dong

Gyeonggi-do Selected for 'Community Sports Facility Support Project' Contest
Renovation of Icheon Middle School Playground and Seolbong Park Tennis Court Also Planned

A sports park equipped with a multipurpose stadium and a grass plaza will be established in Jeungpo-dong, Icheon-si, Gyeonggi-do.


On the 17th, Icheon City announced that it recently secured a budget of 6.7 billion KRW after being selected for Gyeonggi-do's '2024 Sports Promotion Facility Support Project' and '2023 Health Sports Facility Support Project' competitions, including ▲Jeungpo-dong Sports Park Construction Project ▲Icheon Middle School Playground Renovation Project ▲Seolbong Park Tennis Court Renovation Project.


The Sports Promotion Facility and Health Sports Facility Support Projects are competitive programs by Gyeonggi-do that provide construction and facility costs, excluding land acquisition costs, to support the renovation of community sports parks, school playground sports facilities, and public sports facilities in each city and county.

With the selection in the competition, the city plans to invest 6 billion KRW from the provincial government and 34 billion KRW from the city budget into the Jeungpo-dong Sports Park Construction Project to create public sports facilities and rest areas such as a multipurpose stadium, tennis courts, and a grass plaza. For Icheon Middle School, the city will spend 400 million KRW from the provincial government and 600 million KRW from the city budget to replace the artificial turf on the playground. The Seolbong Park tennis courts will also undergo repairs of aging convenience facilities with 300 million KRW from the provincial government and 900 million KRW from the city budget.


Earlier this year, Icheon City secured a total of 3.3 billion KRW, including 3 billion KRW from the National Sports Promotion Fund for the construction of the Jungni District National Sports Center and 300 million KRW for renovation works of two public sports facilities, including the Hiddink Dream Field soccer stadium.


Kim Kyung-hee, mayor of Icheon City, said, "With this selection in the competition, we have been able to reduce the financial burden on Icheon City and smoothly proceed with the projects. We will continue to do our best to secure national and provincial funds to expand sports infrastructure for our citizens."
