Entels' subsidiary, Encoms, announced on the 17th that it has formed a strategic business partnership with ‘Parang Company,’ a youth theater performance troupe. The two companies created a realistic metaverse space based on the actual operating ‘Chorok Theater’ playhouse and opened the online theater venue called ‘Chorok Theater Metaverse Venue.’
This service partnership, aiming to be the nation’s first ‘realistic metaverse theater venue’ service, was produced through photogrammetry of various spaces to replicate the actual venue identically. Beyond offering a unique experience, it enables audiences who find it difficult to visit specialized theater venues due to physical constraints such as time and location to enjoy an immersive experience anytime using just a PC or smartphone.
This is significant as it breaks down the barriers of theater viewing, which had been concentrated in certain regions. Audience members who participated in the beta test commented that watching the performance stage they usually visited in person through the metaverse venue online provided a realistic sense of presence, and they had an amazing experience exploring various spaces including the performance stage.
Encoms has recently been expanding its content business by combining traditional IT development with AR, XR, and metaverse technologies, backed by professional solutions and diverse creative capabilities. The company has carried out projects with various corporations such as SK Telecom and Samsung Electronics, and recently has been gaining industry attention by strengthening its business capabilities in metaverse, AR, and live broadcasting services.
A representative of Parang Company stated, “Parang Company is a youth-specialized troupe and plans to provide content to culturally marginalized audiences in other regions who have had difficulty watching youth performances.” They added, “The major advantage is that audiences can visit the metaverse theater venue to experience the theater itself and comfortably watch live performances from home, rather than just watching videos.”
Kim Jonghak, CEO of Encoms, emphasized, “Through this partnership and service, audiences from various regions will be able to easily and conveniently gain cultural experiences.” He added, “We will expand the service by securing various performance videos in the future, and through strategic partnerships with specialized production companies in comics, webtoons, and characters, we aim to uniquely dominate the metaverse content market.”
