Award Ceremony Held for Upcycling Contest to Raise Environmental Protection Awareness
SPC's social welfare foundation, SPC Happy Foundation, announced on the 17th that it held an awards ceremony for the ‘SPC Coffee Sack Upcycle Design Contest’ conducted in September to commemorate Resource Circulation Day.

This contest, held in collaboration with the Korea Upcycle Design Association to reduce waste generated from coffee consumption and raise awareness about environmental protection, was themed ‘Upcycling Design of Green Coffee Bean Sacks.’
A total of 69 design proposals from specialized high school students were submitted through the contest held since September, and among them, 39 selected teams created actual works using green coffee bean sacks generated during SPC’s coffee manufacturing process. SPC Group designers and experts from the Korea Upcycle Design Association evaluated the works based on completeness, design excellence and originality, product usability, and feasibility, ultimately selecting 8 teams as winners: 1 Grand Prize, 2 Excellence Awards, and 5 Encouragement Awards.
The Grand Prize was awarded to Song Eun-chae from Seoul Design High School for an apron made from coffee sacks. The Excellence Awards went to Choi Eun-bin from Hallim Design High School for a highly functional bag design, and Kim Eun-bi and Lim Hye-jung from Hallim Design High School for a travel suitcase cover and crossbody bag. The Encouragement Awards were given to Lee Hwan-hee from Ansan Design Culture High School (one-piece dress), Lee Ha-ryeong from Yerim Design High School (knitted bag), Min Yoo-kyung from Incheon Life Science High School (handbag), Kim Min-sung from Seoul Design High School (shoes), and Kim So-hyun from Ansan Design Culture High School (apron and cooking gloves).
At the awards ceremony held for the contest winners, Heo Hee-soo, Vice President of SPC Group, and Kim Mi-kyung, President of the Korea Upcycle Association, attended to present the awards and prize money. The Grand Prize winner received a certificate and a prize of 2 million KRW, the Excellence Award winners received certificates and 1 million KRW each, and the remaining winners were also given certificates and prize money.
The winning works have been exhibited at ‘Upcycle Hug’ in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, for a week starting from the 16th, and will continue to be displayed in the lobby of SPC Group’s headquarters thereafter.
