Daegu Bokmyeong Elementary School received the Grand Prize (Minister of Science and ICT Award) at the '2023 Generational Empathy Letter Writing Contest' hosted by the Korea Post and the Gyeongbuk Regional Post Office.
This contest saw participation from 87 elementary, middle, and high schools in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, with over 35,000 students submitting a total of 40,000 letters. In Daegu, 26 schools participated, and Bokmyeong Elementary received 3,996 letters from 276 students, earning the grand prize.

Since April, Bokmyeong Elementary has been consistently exchanging handwritten letters with family, friends, homeroom teachers, cafeteria and administrative office staff, as well as local police officers and firefighters who work nearby and support the school and students. Through this, they shared warm feelings and created a communicative educational community.
Jeon Ji-hye, a third-grade student at Daegu Bokmyeong Elementary, said, “Exchanging handwritten letters with my friends allowed us to share our true feelings and become closer. Also, reflecting on those around me, I realized there are many people working hard for us, and it was rewarding to express my gratitude to them.”
Chae Jeong-sun, principal of Bokmyeong Elementary, stated, “We will continue to make efforts so that students can cultivate warm character by living together with peers, family, and neighbors, empathizing with each other, and expressing gratitude.”
