Han Hwajin, Minister of Environment, "Efforts to Designate Local Children's Centers as Environmental Health Legal Management Facilities"

Han Hwa-jin, Minister of Environment, stated on the 17th, "We will simultaneously promote support and institutional improvements to ensure the safety of facilities used by children."

The Ministry of Environment announced that Minister Han made these remarks while visiting the Hanuri Community Child Center located in Bucheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, in the morning, inspecting the facility improvement site.

Community Child Centers are facilities that provide welfare services such as education and play linked with the local community for children who need after-school care, according to the Child Welfare Act, with over 4,200 centers nationwide.

The Ministry of Environment is supporting projects to reduce environmental harmful factors such as heavy metals and asbestos, as well as indoor air quality measurements, targeting Community Child Centers nationwide to protect the health of children using these centers. For facilities where exposure to environmental harmful factors is a concern, facility improvements are being carried out, such as replacing building materials with eco-friendly finishing materials.

The Ministry explained that it will make efforts to designate Community Child Centers as legally managed facilities under the Environmental Health Act and the Asbestos Safety Management Act by collecting opinions from the field meeting held that day.

Minister Han said, "We will strive to ensure that children, the future generation, can live safely in an environment free from environmental harmful factors."
