Busan Metropolitan Office of Education will hold the ‘GO! Global Student Camp’ for 88 elementary, middle, and high school students every Saturday from the 18th to December 2nd at the KF ASEAN Culture Center in Haeundae-gu.
This camp, held for the first time this year, aims to raise students’ interest in global issues through various cultural experiences and to develop their capabilities as global talents who put these into practice.
The event is co-hosted by the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education and the Busan Global City Foundation, with sponsorship from the KF ASEAN Culture Center.
The Office of Education will operate the camp in a way that fosters participants’ understanding of foreign cultures and languages and motivates them to learn foreign languages. The camp will be led by foreign instructors who are bilingual, and the ‘Expo Friends,’ a foreign publicity group for the 2030 Busan World Expo, will provide operational support.
First, Laura McLarkey, a freelance host from Ireland, will give a lecture to elementary and middle school students on the theme of ‘Living as a Global Citizen in Multicultural Society Korea.’
Additionally, Heo Wook, head of the Immigration Integration Support Team at the Busan Immigration Office of the Ministry of Justice, will inform high school students about ‘From Outgoing Immigration to Incoming Immigration!’
Following this, participating students will take part in ASEAN cooking classes and cultural experience programs from three continents: the Americas, Asia, and Africa, cultivating an attitude that respects cultural diversity.
Gwak Jeong-rok, head of the Character, Physical Education, and School Meals Division at the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, “This camp will be an enjoyable and meaningful time that nurtures proper global citizenship sensitivity through student-centered experiential activities.”
He added, “We will continue to spare no support to help our students grow into global leaders who respect diverse cultures and think and act for a sustainable future.”
