One Grand Prize Winner, One Creativity Award Winner, One Merit Award Winner Selected
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam is calling for entries for the 32nd Dongseo Art Award to honor artists who have contributed to the development of Korean art and are actively engaged in creative activities.
The competition covers all fields of art, and any South Korean citizen actively involved in art creation can apply through recommendations from university presidents, heads of art-related organizations, or recommendation committee members appointed by the Dongseo Art Award Steering Committee.
Applications can be submitted via email by 6 p.m. on the 30th, and the results of the judging will be announced on the Changwon City website. The award ceremony is scheduled to be held in December.
The Dongseo Art Award selects one Grand Prize winner (with a prize of 10 million KRW), one Creative Award winner (with a prize of 5 million KRW), and one Merit Award winner (with a prize of 2 million KRW). The Grand Prize winner will also receive the privilege of a solo exhibition invitation in the following year.
Kim Eun-ja, Director of the Culture, Tourism and Sports Bureau, stated, “Through Changwon City's active administrative support and the promotional activities of the Dongseo Art Award Steering Committee, we will enhance the prestige of the Dongseo Art Award and create opportunities to more firmly introduce the late Song In-sik to the public.”
Jo Seong-je, Chairman of the Dongseo Art Award Steering Committee, said, “We will honor the achievements of the late Song In-sik and strive to discover outstanding recipients to elevate the prestige of the art award.”
The Dongseo Art Award began in 1990 and is now in its 32nd year. The late Song In-sik of Dongseo Gallery generously donated 100 million KRW in 1990 to annually award artists who contributed to the development of local culture and arts. Changwon City has continued the award since 2022 in accordance with the “Ordinance on the Changwon City Dongseo Art Award,” proposed by City Councilor Kim Kyung-hee in July 2021, carrying on the late Song’s legacy.
