Dong-A University Graduate School Alumni, Grand Prize Winner in the 'Disaster Safety Public Participation Thesis Contest'

Drs. Lee Young-woong and Kim Jung-hoon, alumni of the Department of Disaster Management at Dong-A University Graduate School, received the Grand Prize at the ‘2023 National Disaster Safety Public Participation Paper Contest.’


In this contest hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and organized by the Korean Society of Disaster Prevention, the paper by Drs. Lee Young-woong and Kim Jung-hoon titled “A Study on Evidence-Reference Networks in the Han Express Accident Verdict Using Information-Centered Analysis Method: Focusing on the Applicability of Disaster Root Cause Analysis” received excellent evaluations.


They were selected as one of the final 10 papers after the first written review and the second presentation review, and received the Grand Prize, the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award, in the general category.

Dr. Lee Young-woong (Senior Researcher at the National Disaster Safety Research Institute) said, “I am pleased to achieve the Grand Prize again following 2020,” and added, “I will continue to devote myself to follow-up research on establishing governance that can appropriately mitigate disaster risks together with my advisor Professor Lee Dong-gyu and co-author Dr. Kim Jung-hoon.”


Dr. Kim Jung-hoon (Lecturer at Dong-A University and Dongguk University) expressed, “I am grateful to Professor Lee Dong-gyu, the responsible professor who led the research well, and all the faculty members and staff of the department,” and stated, “I will strive further in research aimed at solving social problems to prevent repetitive disasters.”


Established in 2017, the Department of Disaster Management at Dong-A University Graduate School offers majors such as ‘Safety Management in Public Institutions,’ ‘Disaster Medical Management,’ and ‘Disaster Site Command and Cause Investigation Analysis’ to train disaster management experts. Applications for the 2024 general admission to the Department of Disaster Management will be accepted from the 4th to the 8th of next month.
