Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Myeong Hyeon-gwan) announced on the 15th that the basic taxi fare will be increased to 4,800 won starting at midnight on the 24th.
This taxi fare increase is the first in four years since June 2019, raising the fare from the existing 3,500 won by 1,300 won.
Under the revised fare system, the basic fare for medium-sized taxis will be adjusted to 4,800 won for the first 2 km, with subsequent distance charges set at 160 won per 130 meters, and time charges (for speeds below 15 km/h) set at 160 won per 30 seconds.
Night surcharge and out-of-service-area surcharge remain at 20%, unchanged from the current rates, and the previous call fee of 1,000 won has been eliminated.
This fare increase was finalized after holding a meeting with the taxi industry based on the taxi fare increase plan approved by the Jeollanam-do Consumer Policy Committee in August, followed by collecting residents' opinions, holding council meetings, and deliberation by the Haenam-gun Price Stabilization Committee.
A county official stated, “The increase was decided after thoroughly reviewing various conditions such as the rising transportation costs including fuel and labor costs, the taxi fare trends in neighboring cities and counties, and the inflation rate, which have caused financial difficulties for the taxi industry.”
