Yeongdeok-eup Market, Up to 20,000 Won Refund on Onnuri Gift Certificates
In Yeongdeok-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, an event is being held where customers can receive up to 20,000 KRW in Onnuri gift certificates when purchasing seafood during the kimchi-making season.

This is the second Onnuri gift certificate refund event held this year in Yeongdeok, organized by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to promote seafood consumption, which has declined due to the discharge of contaminated water from Fukushima, Japan. During this kimchi-making season, the event is held in only two markets in Gyeongbuk, one of which is Yeongdeok-eup Market.
The event period is from November 20 to 26, and if you purchase seafood at about 30 stores within Yeongdeok-eup Market, you can receive a refund of up to 40% of the purchase amount (up to 20,000 KRW) in Onnuri gift certificates. The refund amount is 10,000 KRW for purchases between 25,000 KRW and less than 50,000 KRW, and 20,000 KRW for purchases of 50,000 KRW or more. After purchase, customers can visit the refund booth inside the market to receive the refund immediately in Onnuri gift certificates.
Yeongdeok-eup Market also held the same event before Chuseok in September this year, and thanks to the popularity among local residents, the event, which was scheduled for seven days, ended early in just three days. While 4,000 Onnuri gift certificates were originally prepared, this time an additional 6,000 certificates have been added, making a total of 10,000 certificates available. The event will end once the gift certificates are sold out.
Additionally, a simplified refund system has been introduced in this event to reduce the time required for Onnuri gift certificate refunds. Previously, sellers manually wrote the purchase amount and items on paper receipts, which were then verified at the booth. Now, sellers enter the buyer’s contact information and purchase amount into a computerized system, allowing immediate verification and refund at the booth, enhancing consumer convenience.
As the number of consumers visiting Yeongdeok-eup Market during the kimchi-making season is expected to increase, Yeongdeok-gun is continuously conducting radioactive tests on seafood at Yeongdeok-eup Market. Since the introduction of the equipment, a total of nine tests have been conducted, all of which confirmed safety.
Deputy Governor Kim Dong-hee said, “Since the Onnuri gift certificates were sold out early during the Chuseok refund event this year, we have prepared one more event at the end of the year for those who were disappointed. We hope you purchase seafood to prepare kimchi dishes affordably and have a warm and happy winter this season.”
