Gwangju University Department of Creative Writing to Hold Literature Festival Until the 24th

Gwangju University’s Department of Creative Writing announced on the 15th that it will hold a literary festival from the 16th to the 24th under the theme "How Will You Live with AI?"

Planned by Jo Hyung-rae, head of the Department of Creative Writing, and involving student participation, this literary festival is characterized by the active use of the recently spotlighted AI technology.

Students’ poems, novels, and critical essays will be combined with cutting-edge technologies such as AI image generation prompts and AI voice synthesis TTS, and exhibited as media art works around the theater department’s practice rooms starting on the 21st.

AI-generated web novel cover images will also be revealed alongside the works through the department’s webzine, "Everyone’s Literature." The creative collection "Creative World," published with student design and editing, will also be unveiled and distributed.

The festival features a rich lineup of special lectures by authors and experts. Starting on the 16th with a lecture by web novel author Jjokobim, followed by a lecture on the 21st by Hong Ji-pyo, a web novel PD from Kidari Studio. On the 22nd, rising novelist Woo Da-young, on the 23rd, alumnus and children’s and youth literature author Lee Kkot-nim, and on the 24th, alumnus and poet Lee Eun-gyu, who recently published a poetry collection, will give consecutive lectures.

Jo Hyung-rae, head of the Department of Creative Writing, said, "Despite various controversies, new technologies such as AI image generation prompts can be useful tools to visually enhance students’ works and approach readers and audiences in new ways." He added, "With the encouragement and support of the department’s faculty and the active use of AI by students, I hope this literary festival will serve as a meaningful case and opportunity to rethink the convergence between literature and science and technology."
