#. Jiyoung (17, female), who was placed in a childcare facility with her younger sibling at the age of 4, was diagnosed with achondroplasia, a condition where the upper body grows but the lower body does not. Jiyoung, a high school sophomore, is 128 cm tall. To support Jiyoung, whose medical expenses are a heavy burden, her younger sibling gave up the dream of becoming a beautician and plans to become a nurse to help with her sister's treatment. In 1 to 2 years, Jiyoung will have to leave the childcare facility. Support for Jiyoung’s rehabilitation and her sibling’s dream is urgently needed.

Samsung is donating 200 million KRW to 10 children like Jiyoung who have rare diseases or disabilities and require urgent support. This amount was raised by Samsung employees who each contributed 1,000 KRW during the two-week-long Sharing Week, making it even more meaningful. Samsung aims to practice the expansion of sharing in daily life, reflecting Chairman Lee Jae-yong’s philosophy of walking together that "sharing and growing together is the path to becoming the best in the world."

On the 14th, Samsung held the '2023 Second Half Sharing Day' event at the Samsung Electronics Hwaseong Component Research Building (DSR).

This event, the second since the first 'Sharing Day' held at Samsung Electronics Suwon Campus at the end of May, was organized to conclude the 'Sharing Week' conducted across all affiliates over the past two weeks starting from the 1st.

About 130 people attended the event, including Samsung employees, families of children who received donations through the Sharing Kiosk, Assemblywoman Kwon In-sook of the Democratic Party, Minister Kim Hyun-sook of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, Cho Nam-seon, Director of the Blood Management Headquarters of the Korean Red Cross, Jung Tae-young, Secretary General of Save the Children, Park Jung-soon, Head of Child Rights Advocacy at Good Neighbors, and Park Seung-hee, President of Samsung Electronics Corporate Responsibility.

During Sharing Week, Samsung employees participated in ▲face-to-face volunteer work for local communities near each business site ▲daily donations through the Sharing Kiosk ▲blood donation campaigns.

During Sharing Week, a total of 107,000 employees (excluding duplicates) from 23 Samsung affiliates, including Samsung Electronics, participated in community volunteer work, donations via Sharing Kiosks, and blood donation.

The Samsung Sharing Kiosk allows employees to donate 1,000 KRW at a time by simply tapping their employee ID card on the machine. During Sharing Week, the stories of one child in need were displayed simultaneously on all Sharing Kiosks across affiliates each day, encouraging focused donations from employees. The total amount raised this time, 200 million KRW, is twice the average amount collected over two weeks during normal times (86 million KRW).

The guardian of Jiyoung, who received donations through the Sharing Kiosk, said, "The support from employees is a great help for Jiyoung’s rehabilitation treatment and her sibling’s preparation for independence," adding, "We will do our best for the Jiyoung sisters, who were placed in our childcare facility at ages 4 and 2, respectively."

During Sharing Week this year, Samsung operated 69 blood donation buses at 44 business sites nationwide to support employee participation in blood donation. Over 4,000 employees donated blood during the two weeks, which is eight times the average number of employees who donated blood over two weeks last year. Samsung also donated four blood donation buses to the Korean Red Cross on this day.

CEOs of Samsung affiliates also participated in volunteer activities with employees during Sharing Week. On the 6th, Han Jong-hee, Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Electronics, served meals and cleaned a restaurant for the homeless at 'Anna’s House,' a social welfare institution in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. On the 9th, Kyung Kye-hyun, CEO of Samsung Electronics, baked cookies with employees and people with disabilities at 'Hope Star Forest,' a standard workplace for the disabled in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. On the 7th, Choi Joo-sun, President and CEO of Samsung Display, visited a welfare center in Asan, Chungnam Province, to assist disabled people with limited mobility by guiding and supporting them and helping with eye examinations. On the 2nd, Jeon Young-mook, President and CEO of Samsung Life Insurance, and employees participated in a tree-planting volunteer activity along the trail in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, planting about 4,000 landscaping trees including Japanese pagoda trees, dogwoods, and azaleas.

Following Sharing Week, Samsung will start the 'Donation Fair' from the 15th for five weeks until the end of the year, where employees can pre-commit to CSR programs they wish to donate to next year. During the Donation Fair, employees can select CSR programs they want to support and set their desired donation amounts via the company intranet. The pledged donation amounts will be automatically deducted from their monthly salaries, and the company will match the employees’ contributions on a 1:1 basis.

Park Seung-hee, President who attended the event, emphasized, "When many people consistently share their experiences and knowledge with those in need, sharing gains great meaning. I will continue to strengthen our commitment to spreading sharing throughout our society in daily life."
