Gwangsan District Council of Gwangju Holds Meeting to Improve 'Automobile Management Business' in the Electric Vehicle Era

The Citizens' Safety Committee of the Gwangsan District Council in Gwangju held a meeting on the 14th in the council meeting room to gather opinions regarding the 'Automobile Management Business Registration Standards.'

Gwangsan District Council of Gwangju Holds Meeting to Improve 'Automobile Management Business' in the Electric Vehicle Era

This meeting was organized to find improvements to the 'Automobile Management Business Registration Standards' and to devise practical measures for efficient automobile management, as the demand for eco-friendly vehicles such as electric and hydrogen cars increases with the transition to an eco-friendly era.

The meeting was chaired by Councilor Guk Gang-hyun and attended by about 20 participants, including executives and staff from the Gwangju Automobile Maintenance Association, Gwangsan District council members, and related public officials, engaging in heated discussions.

As of the end of October, the number of electric vehicles registered in Gwangsan District reached 2,617, more than three times the number in January 2021. However, compared to the rapidly increasing supply of electric vehicles, the basic infrastructure necessary for electric vehicle maintenance and management, such as repair shops and specialized personnel, remains insufficient.

In response, attendees raised concerns that electric vehicles have fewer parts than conventional internal combustion engine vehicles, resulting in lower maintenance demand. Additionally, since components consist of batteries and other electric parts, specialized knowledge is required for maintenance and repair, making it difficult to train new personnel.

They also expressed regret that although a city ordinance was enacted last September to expand maintenance infrastructure and cultivate specialized personnel for eco-friendly vehicle management, no concrete support projects have been implemented since then.
