Gyeongnam Police Agency Cracks Down on Outlaw 'Kickrani'... Focused Enforcement on Motorcycle and Kickboard Violations

The Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency will conduct a focused crackdown on two-wheeled vehicles and personal mobility device violations from the 13th until the end of this month.

According to the provincial police agency, as of the end of October this year, out of a total of 188 traffic accident fatalities, 49 were deaths from two-wheeled vehicle accidents, and 1 was from an electric kickboard accident, with most occurring in urban areas.

The provincial police agency announced that it has formed a mobile crackdown team deploying two undercover patrol cars and ten police motorcycles, and will conduct traffic patrols and joint crackdowns together with 13 police stations in the province, including Changwon Jungbu Police Station.

They plan to enforce regulations in areas with many delivery motorcycles and electric kickboards, such as restaurant districts, residential areas, university districts, around middle and high schools, as well as in children protection zones.

The crackdown targets two-wheeled vehicles such as motorcycles and electric kickboards, as well as personal mobility devices operating in urban areas.

The enforcement team will detect ▲ unregistered or license plate-less two-wheeled vehicles ▲ signal violations ▲ riding on sidewalks ▲ unlicensed operation of kickboards ▲ failure to wear protective gear such as helmets ▲ exceeding passenger capacity, among others.

Additionally, the provincial police agency will hold meetings with delivery service companies and electric kickboard sharing companies in urban areas and promote the importance of safety rule compliance by sharing recent accident cases through social networking services (SNS).

A representative from the provincial police agency stated, “After the college entrance exam on the 16th, violations involving two-wheeled vehicles and electric kickboards are expected to increase. Unlike cars, two-wheeled vehicles and electric kickboards expose the body externally, so even minor collisions can cause serious injuries to the driver. Therefore, it is essential to follow the regulations.”
