Gyeongsangnam-do will conduct hygiene inspections to prevent the spread of bedbugs for one month starting from the 13th.
Gyeongnam Province announced that it will carry out hygiene inspections due to growing public anxiety following nationwide reports of bedbug sightings.
According to the province, the inspection targets are 3,746 bathhouses and lodging facilities in the province where the likelihood of bedbug occurrence is relatively high and that are used by an unspecified number of people.
The province will form inspection teams consisting of public hygiene departments from the province and city/counties, as well as honorary public hygiene monitors, and will inspect the sites with the cooperation of facility managers.

In bathhouse businesses, the inspection teams will check ▲disinfection at least once a month ▲cleanliness management such as cleaning at least once a day as needed ▲whether towels, gowns, and rental clothes are properly laundered before being provided.
In lodging facilities, they will verify ▲disinfection at least once a month ▲laundering of bedding such as sheets, blankets, and pillows, as well as towels, after each use by a guest ▲frequent cleaning of rooms and bathrooms and proper separation of tools according to their intended use.
If violations are found, correctable issues will be immediately addressed on-site, and serious violations will be subject to administrative measures or fines according to the Public Hygiene Management Act.
The province also plans to distribute the "Bedbug Information Booklet" provided by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency to businesses to encourage ongoing prevention of bedbug occurrences and prompt control measures.
A provincial official stated, “We will do our best to prevent bedbug occurrences to alleviate residents’ concerns and ensure that residents can use public hygiene facilities with confidence.”
