Gwangju Seo-gu Operates 'VR Seo-gu 8 Views' Experience Booth in City Hall 1st Floor Lobby

Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Ikang) announced on the 13th that it will operate a ‘VR Experience Booth for Seo-gu’s 8 Scenic Spots’ in the lobby on the first floor of the Seo-gu Office until the 15th.

This event is a resident participation program where people can freely experience Seo-gu’s eight representative scenic spots, including ▲Mangwijung ▲Geumdangsan ▲Pungam Lake ▲Seochang Field Sunset ▲Yongdudong Dolmen ▲Yangdong Market ▲Uncheon Buddha Rock-carved Seated Buddha Statue ▲5·18 Memorial Park, through VR devices using virtual reality (VR) content.

Since last year, Seo-gu has been conducting virtual reality (VR) classes as part of lifelong education, and in January, it was selected as one of the ‘Top 15 Best Policies for Lifelong Learning Cities Nationwide,’ gaining nationwide attention as an excellent program.

In particular, this year Seo-gu has operated a ‘Visiting VR Experience Classroom’ by visiting welfare centers for the elderly with mobility difficulties and people with disabilities, providing neighbors who find it difficult to visit the site in person with the opportunity to experience Seo-gu’s scenic spots through virtual reality, receiving favorable reviews from participants.

Park Mihui, Director of the Seo-gu Office Education Library, said, “We hope people will newly experience the eight scenic spots of Gwangju Seo-gu, where natural landscapes and cultural heritage harmonize, through virtual reality,” adding, “We will continue to strive to provide immersive programs planned and participated in directly by citizens to actively respond to future social changes.”
