Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk announced on the 13th that it will designate the period from the 17th of this month to the 25th of next month as a special collection period for kimchi-making waste and will provide free collection of kimchi-related waste to enhance convenience for citizens during the kimchi-making season.
During the special collection period, vegetable by-products such as outer leaves and roots of vegetables like napa cabbage, radish, and green onions that have not been salted in brine should be placed in transparent or blue plastic bags for free collection.
However, foreign substances such as soil, twine, and straw must be removed, and moisture should be minimized before disposal. Salted napa cabbage and kimchi seasoning ingredients should be disposed of in food waste standard bags or food waste containers as usual.
A city official stated, "During the free collection period, mixing general food waste or household waste with kimchi waste or disposing of it in black plastic bags will be considered illegal dumping and may result in fines, so please follow the proper disposal methods."
