Ulsan Culture and Arts Center (Director Ma Dong-cheol) will stage the play "Children on the Road" at the Small Theater on the 18th at 5 p.m.
This work was produced by the National Asia Culture Center Foundation with support from the "2023 Bangbanggokgok Cultural Sympathy Project."
"Children on the Road" is set against the backdrop of Seongam Academy, a juvenile reformatory located on Seongamdo Island in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, during the 1960s.
The performance tells the story of two boys confined in a detention center. The protagonists, Taeju and Seonoh, who are placed in a violent environment, attempt a temporary escape from fear through play that imitates adult behavior.
Presented as a two-person play, the dangerous imaginative play unfolding in a confined space creates a rough and thrilling tension. The work raises the issue of the impact of social violence on youth.
An official from Ulsan Culture and Arts Center said, "In an era when school violence is a social issue, this is an educationally excellent work to watch with your children," and added, "We hope many citizens will attend."
