Cultural Experiment Space Hosu Discovers and Provides Exhibition Opportunities for 15 Young Artists in Western Painting, Installation, and Media... Digital Drawing Works by ▲Park Seonju ▲Kim Jina Presented from the 14th
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it will hold the first exhibition of the emerging artists contest, "Palette" exhibition, at Hosu, a cultural experimental space located at Seokchon Lake.
The district promoted the "Emerging Artists Exhibition Contest" to select promising young artists in order to expand their activities within the region and provide residents with opportunities to enjoy high-quality culture and arts in their daily lives.
Through the contest held last October, a total of 15 young artists were finally selected. Considering the diversity of genres, the district selected ▲6 Western painters ▲4 Korean painters ▲2 three-dimensional sculpture and installation artists ▲1 media and video artist ▲2 digital drawing artists. The 15 selected young artists will hold exhibitions they plan themselves at the cultural experimental space Hosu until the first half of next year.
The first exhibition of the emerging artists contest, "Palette" exhibition, showcases works by two artists, ▲Park Seon-ju and ▲Kim Jin-a (Jina), who mainly work on digital drawing. This exhibition, designed to explore their unique palettes, will run from November 14 to December 31, 2023.
Additionally, an exhibition-linked program is prepared where visitors can communicate directly with the artists and create their own artworks. The program "A Small New Year's Gift from Palette," where participants draw the image of themselves and their community on that day with artist Park Seon-ju and make it into a phone case, will be held. Pre-registration is available through the Seoul Public Service Reservation system.
Also, as a regular program, visitors can leave their thoughts about "shapes" on an activity sheet featuring Park Seon-ju’s "Mini Square Series," helping them remember the exhibition and enjoy the space.
The exhibition and regular programs are open for viewing without separate reservations. Operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, closed on Mondays and public holidays.
Meanwhile, the district has been actively supporting young artists by ▲establishing the "Youth Artist Center" in Pungnap-dong last August, providing studio spaces for young artists to reside and work ▲planning "The Impact," a program offering weekly music performances at the Seokchon Lake Atelier until the end of December to support young musicians who lack stages.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, “Going forward, Songpa-gu will actively discover and support young artists working in various fields such as music, art, and photography,” adding, “Furthermore, we will create a Songpa where culture and arts flow so that all residents can easily access culture and arts anytime and enjoy a rich life.”
