Musk's AI with a Sense of Humor: 'Grok'
The 'Musk's AI' has been unveiled. This AI, introduced by the AI startup 'xAI' founded by Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, is named 'Grok.' The word means 'to understand' or 'to empathize' and is also a coined term from a famous science fiction (SF) novel. It refers to the behavior of Martians who can fully understand the emotions and situations of others without explanations, unlike humans. Grok reflects real-time information and has a sense of humor. Additionally, it is only accessible by signing up through the account of Musk's other company, X. It reportedly costs $16 per month to use.
Amazon to Build AI Model Twice the Size of GPT-4
Amazon is challenging OpenAI's latest model, GPT-4. The project, named 'Olympus,' aims to develop a large language model (LLM) with 2 trillion parameters. This is twice the size of OpenAI's GPT-4, which has 1 trillion parameters. Parameters are indicators that determine AI performance; the larger the number, the smarter the model. Rohit Prasad, former head of Amazon's voice AI Alexa, is leading the development, and it is such an important project that he reports directly to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy. Veteran AI company IBM has also opened its wallet, announcing a $500 million (about 630 billion KRW) investment in generative AI startups. They stated they will not limit their annual investment goals or scale. After investing, they plan to form partnerships to help commercialize the technology.
AI Version of App Store Launches
OpenAI held its first developer conference since its founding and unveiled a slew of new technologies. The first is GPT-4 Turbo. It offers better performance than GPT-4 at about one-third the cost. It provides answers based on data trained up to April 2023, reflecting more recent information than GPT-4. The length of questions that can be requested at once has also increased significantly. You can input data equivalent to a 300-page book and ask for a summary. The second is GPTs, a tool that allows anyone to create customized GPT models without coding. This marks the beginning of an era where everyone has their own Jarvis (the assistant from Iron Man). Lastly, they introduced the GPT Store. It is an AI version of Apple's App Store, where anyone can upload AI services created with GPTs and, conversely, download and use them. For OpenAI, this means controlling everything from AI development to distribution, diversifying revenue sources.
MS Bans ChatGPT Internally
Microsoft (MS), a partner of OpenAI, has issued a ban on ChatGPT within the company due to concerns over information leakage risks. MS has advised employees to use Bing Chat instead. Bing Chat is MS's own AI chatbot based on OpenAI's GPT-4. While collaborating with OpenAI, MS draws a line by positioning itself as an external business partner, showing a subtle form of competition.
